Petruzzelli Luxury Apartment: The Bari Airbnb That Surprised Us
The Airbnb We Wish We Had for Longer
The Short Version
This Airbnb is the perfect base for exploring Bari before leaving Puglia. I loved the large living area, balcony, and proximity to Bari Vecchia.
Location: Bari, Italy
Sleeps: Up to 4
Layout: One bedroom, a large living room with sofa bed, full kitchen, and 1.5 bathrooms.
Perfect for: Small families, couples, friends and travelers flying in or out of the Bari Airport.
Highlights: Convenient to Bari Vecchia, a street-facing balcony, luxurious bathroom, and fully-equipped kitchen.
Our final Airbnb in Puglia had a fairly straightforward job: give Bailey and me somewhere to stay in Bari for one night before our flight home. Being able to book the apartment for a single night made it an easy fit for our itinerary, but I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was and wish we'd had more time to enjoy it.
We arrived in Bari by train after spending the previous few days in Lecce, and our host graciously allowed us to drop off our luggage before the official check-in time. That meant we could head straight out to explore Bari Vecchia rather than spending the afternoon hauling our increasingly heavy suitcases around town.
Inside Our Bari Airbnb
Although the apartment was technically a one-bedroom, it functioned more like a two-bedroom thanks to a sofa bed in the living room. The main bedroom had an attached bathroom, and there was another, much smaller half bathroom off the hallway that Bailey used during our stay.
What surprised me most was the size of the apartment. It was much larger than I'd anticipated, with a generously sized kitchen and a spacious living area that opened onto a balcony overlooking the street.
I wish we'd had more time to enjoy that balcony, but unfortunately, our very short stay didn't leave much room for lounging around the apartment. Still, having separate sleeping areas and one and a half bathrooms made it a great setup for two friends traveling together.
Both the bedroom and living room had air conditioning, and I didn't notice any street noise during our stay. Another welcome surprise was that the building had an elevator, which was especially appreciated after spending much of our Puglia trip hauling suitcases up and down stairs.
One Last Night in Puglia
The apartment was in a great location, just a short walk of no more than ten minutes from Bari Vecchia. We spent most of our afternoon exploring the old town, eating focaccia from Panificio Santa Rita, and stopping at Gelateria Gentile for a coconut granita. I'd heard mixed things about Bari before our trip, but we really enjoyed wandering through the historic center.
That evening, we went out for dinner and ended up at Wine Bar Tranquillo, where we spent far too long reminiscing about the trip and pretending we didn't have to leave Italy the next morning.
We even stopped at McDonald's on the way home for spicy chicken nuggets and fries, which probably wasn't how I'd envisioned our final meal in Puglia, but it seemed like an excellent idea at the time.
By the time we finally went to bed, our 2:30 a.m. alarm was approaching much faster than either of us would have liked.
Would I Stay Here Again?
Yes, and next time I'd try to stay even longer. The apartment offered far more space than I expected, and the separate sleeping areas, one and a half bathrooms, large kitchen and balcony made it a great option for friends traveling together. It would also work well for a small family or anyone who wants a little extra room to spread out during their stay.
Between the spacious accommodations and the convenient location near Bari Vecchia, I could easily see this working for a longer visit, too.
I also appreciated being able to book just one night, which made it convenient for our early departure from Bari Airport.
We didn't get nearly enough time to enjoy the apartment itself, but it gave us a comfortable place to finish our trip—and one last evening to enjoy Italy before heading home.
