Our Waterfront Cala Figuera Airbnb
The Airbnb We Changed Our Travel Dates For
The Short Version
A stunning waterfront home with views of Cala Figuera and its boats, green shutters, and golden sunshine. I changed my travel dates just to stay in this Airbnb and would do it all over again.
Location: Cala Figuera, Spain
Sleeps: Up to 4
Layout: Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open living area, and waterfront terrace.
Perfect for: Families, friends, and anyone looking for a little peace and quiet during their Mallorca vacation.
Highlights: Close proximity to some of Mallorca’s most stunning beaches, a balcony off the main bedroom, and beautiful views.
When I started looking for places to stay in Mallorca, I kept coming back to the same Airbnb in Cala Figuera. It was a waterfront apartment overlooking a little fishing harbor, with whitewashed stone buildings, green shutters, boats moored right outside, and a terrace that looked out over all of it.
I loved everything about it, except for one small problem: it wasn't available for our travel dates. So we booked another Airbnb, right?
Nope, we changed our travel dates. There was something about that little harbor, with its green boat-garage doors and crystal-clear water, that I just couldn't get out of my head.
Of course, changing your travel plans around an Airbnb you've never seen in person is a bit of a gamble. It's one thing for a property to look beautiful in photographs, but it's another thing entirely to arrive and discover whether the view is actually as spectacular as you'd imagined.
By the time we finally reached Cala Figuera, it was around eleven at night. We'd had a long day of traveling, a frustrating experience at the rental car counter, and a rather stressful introduction to the very steep road leading to our parking spot. We brought our bags inside, looked around the apartment, and could already tell it was lovely, but outside was almost completely dark.
The view we'd rearranged our trip for would have to wait until morning, and boy, was it worth the wait.
The Terrace Was Worth the Trip
The best part of this Airbnb, without question, was the terrace. It opened directly off the main living area and overlooked the harbor, with the water immediately below us. Across the way were rows of whitewashed buildings, their green shutters matching the doors of the little boat garages at the water's edge. Boats were lined up along the harbor, and the water was so clear and blue that I felt like I should take a picture every time we walked past. It might have been the best view I've ever had from an Airbnb.
Sometimes you book a place with an incredible balcony or terrace, take a few pictures when you arrive, and then spend the rest of your trip running around without ever really using it. The reason I love Airbnbs like this one is that they encourage you to slow down, take a beat, and simply enjoy being together. After spending Saturday morning exploring the market in Santanyí and the afternoon visiting Cala Llombards and Cala Santanyí, we came home, poured ourselves some wine, brought out the fruit we'd bought at the market, and settled onto the terrace. Makena taught me how to play gin, and after she won one round and I won another, we eventually had to put the cards away to get ready and figure out our plans for dinner.
Throughout the trip, we spent plenty of time on that terrace drinking wine, sharing photos, gossiping, making plans, and doing absolutely nothing. I love having somewhere beautiful to come home to after a day of exploring, and this apartment was exactly the kind of place I'd hoped to find when I started searching for our Mallorca accommodations.
Inside Our Cala Figuera Airbnb
The apartment itself was a great setup for two people traveling together. The main level had a large, open living room and dining area, with a small kitchen tucked in the back. There was also a full bathroom on that floor, and the living room opened directly onto the terrace. Upstairs were two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and another with two twin beds, with a second full bathroom in between them.
The larger bedroom had its own balcony overlooking the harbor, where you could enjoy that incredible view from upstairs, too. The second bedroom was smaller, but the twin beds could be pushed together if you needed more space. Having separate bedrooms and two full bathrooms was a great setup for this trip with my cousin, Makena. We each had our own space, but the common areas were comfortable enough that we could hang out together without feeling like we were sitting in someone's bedroom. Somehow, we still managed to end up crowded in front of the same mirror most afternoons while getting ready for the evening.
Mornings Above the Harbor
One of my favorite features of the apartment was something I hadn't even considered when booking it: nature's very own white-noise machine. The larger upstairs bedroom had balcony doors with exterior shutters, which meant I could leave the doors open all night while keeping the shutters closed. The first night, I could hear the gentle sound of water lapping against the concrete edge of the harbor, accompanied by a delicate clinking sound, like silverware lightly tapping against fine china. I initially thought it was people enjoying dinner outside on their terraces, which seemed like such a lovely way to spend an evening in this beautiful little village, but soon realized it was the rigging on the boats knocking against their hulls.
Every night, I'd pull the shutters closed, leave the balcony doors wide open, and fall asleep listening to the water and the occasional little clink of the boats. It was the most peaceful sound to fall asleep to and wake up to each morning, and certainly better than any white-noise playlist I've ever found on Spotify.
One of my favorite memories from this Airbnb was opening the shutters that first morning and looking out over the harbor as the sun was rising. As the sunlight moved across the waterfront, it cast this warm, golden glow over the whitewashed buildings, illuminating their green shutters and the little boat garages below. Everything looked so beautiful that I was constantly taking pictures. We'd make our coffee, wander outside in our pajamas, and enjoy the view before getting ready for whatever we'd planned that day.
We also loved being able to step outside and explore the harbor in the mornings before the daytime visitors arrived. On one particularly beautiful morning, we finally walked all the way around the waterfront, something we'd been watching other people do from our terrace for the previous couple of days. There were older men sitting across the water drinking coffee, people walking their dogs, and colorful fishing nets piled along the harbor. We eventually made it to the opposite side, where we could finally see our own apartment from everyone else's perspective and, naturally, needed a few more photographs. I loved that we didn't have to make a special trip to experience Cala Figuera because we were already right in the middle of it.
The One Thing I'd Do Differently: The Parking
For all the wonderful things I have to say about this Airbnb, getting there was not my favorite experience. I'd read reviews mentioning that the parking was a little tricky, and I'd thoroughly researched the approach on Google Street View ahead of time. I knew there was a steep, narrow road leading to the parking area, and I thought I was prepared, but seeing something on Google Street View and actually driving down it in a rental car at eleven o'clock at night are two entirely different things.
We arrived after a very long travel day, and by that point my nerves were already shot. I'd been awake since the previous night, we'd spent far longer than expected at the airport dealing with our rental car, and now I was driving through an unfamiliar village in the dark. When we reached the apartment, there wasn't any street parking available nearby, so we had to use the parking spot at the bottom of this extremely steep, narrow hill. I was not thrilled, to say the least, but we got the car parked without incident and were finally able to settle in. Makena was a calm champ the entire time…me, not so much. Later in the trip, we found street parking above the apartment, which made coming and going considerably easier, although I wouldn't assume those spaces will always be available.
The host does provide parking instructions, and I would highly recommend taking the time to study the approach on Google Street View before arriving. I'd done exactly that, and it was still a memorable experience, but at least you'll have a better idea of what you're getting yourself into.
Who I'd Recommend This Airbnb To
This property is ideal for friends, small families, couples, and solo travelers and would be perfect for anyone who appreciates a beautiful view and wants to spend time enjoying their accommodation. If you're like me and love finding Airbnbs with beautiful outdoor spaces, it's hard to imagine a much better setup. You can spend your days exploring Mallorca, then come back to a peaceful little harbor, pour yourself a glass of wine, and sit outside overlooking the boats.
Cala Figuera is approximately 5-7 minutes from Santanyí, 15 minutes from Cala Llombards and Caló del Moro, 45 minutes from Palma, and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Deià. There are numerous beaches that dot the eastern coast of the island and most are less than an hour drive away.
We had beaches, markets, restaurants, and beautiful towns to explore during the day, and this incredible waterfront apartment waiting for us in the evenings. It was exactly what I wanted from our Mallorca stay.
Would I Stay Here Again?
Absolutely. In fact, I'd happily rearrange my travel dates for it again.
I loved the apartment, the harbor, and having somewhere so beautiful that we actually wanted to spend time there. When I think about our Mallorca trip, I remember sitting on that terrace with Makena, eating fruit, drinking wine, and playing cards while looking out over the boats. Those are the kinds of little moments that make a trip feel special to me, and they're exactly why I'm so particular about the places I choose to stay. I'd book this Airbnb again in a heartbeat, although I might try to arrive in the daylight next time!
